Pair of stepped urns, dark green feldspathic crackle glaze with bronze fragments

£1,200.00

Dimensions:

Each measures approximately: 17.2 H x 8.7 W

A handsome pair of jars, urns, made with a high iron stoneware clay body that’s been coated in a dark green feldspathic crackle glaze that’s then reduction fired to cone ten, (1290ºC). I’ve inserted two lumps of bronze into their surface, it’s this that produces the crimson dots that link the two pots together—the beating hearts.

These pots are dishwasher safe and food safe, although please take care, washing by hand is the best option. All my pots are made with a high iron content clay body that is heavily reduction fired. This means that sharper edges can be susceptible to chipping if they’re bashed so please handle your pots with care. I personally always hand wash my handmade pottery and tend not to use them in microwaves. Remember, this isn’t mass produced factory ceramics, each pot is individual. Additionally, crackle glazes like this can stain naturally overtime with liquids such as tea or coffee. The pots themselves are highly vitrified and there’s nothing toxic or dangerous that can leach out from the crackle glazes. This is simply a byproduct of having such surfaces and you’ll find that crackle glazes, or crazing like this, can appear in wood fired pots, soda fired pots and salt fired wares too.
