Trio of angular bowls in different clay types (28)

£600.00

Dimensions:

Each measures approximately: 8 H x 15 W (Stoneware, porcelain & grogged pink stoneware)

Three test bowls, that’s what they were initially, pots made as part of a YouTube series, (https://youtu.be/lKoAtIR5flM) about experimenting with different clay types in order to see how the glaze that covers them is changed. Thus, these are made from a coarse grogged ‘pink’ stoneware, my regular high iron stoneware and porcelain, each was then coated in a dark green feldspathic crackle glaze and reduction fired to cone ten, (1290ºC). The grogged bowl is rich and dark and metallic, whereas the porcelain is bright and the glaze sings, there’s a slight surface indent on this piece but the glaze covers it.

These pots are dishwasher safe and food safe, although please take care, washing by hand is the best option. All my pots are made with a high iron content clay body that is heavily reduction fired. This means that sharper edges can be susceptible to chipping if they’re bashed so please handle your pots with care. I personally always hand wash my handmade pottery and tend not to use them in microwaves. Remember, this isn’t mass produced factory ceramics, each pot is individual. Additionally, crackle glazes like this can stain naturally overtime with liquids such as tea or coffee. The pots themselves are highly vitrified and there’s nothing toxic or dangerous that can leach out from the crackle glazes. This is simply a byproduct of having such surfaces and you’ll find that crackle glazes, or crazing like this, can appear in wood fired pots, soda fired pots and salt fired wares too.
